(Born in 1993 in Bamenda, Cameroon. Lives en works in Douala, Cameroon.)
Boris Anje developed an interest in figurative art at an early age, drawing characters from comic books when he was just 9 years old. He attended the Foumban Institute of Fine Arts in Cameroon and was an artist-in-residence at the prestigious Les Ateliers Sahm in Brazzaville, Congo. During his time in Congo, he was inspired by the ‘Le Sape’ culture; the remnants of elegance, style, and manners of colonial predecessors, which informs the majority of his artistic subjects. He met renowned artists such as Jean Jacques Kanté and Herve Youmbi whose techniques and use of vibrant colours inspired his own. Boris now creates Neo-Pop Art paintings with realistically rendered black bodies and abstract backgrounds that point to the influence of consumer culture.
Anje has had solo and group shows in Spain, the USA, Nigeria, France, Congo, Belgium, Germany, Lebanon, Senegal, the Netherlands, and Cameroon. He has also participated in the 1-54 New York Online Art Fair, Art X Lagos (2019), AKAA Art Fair (2019), and the Beirut Art Fair (2018.) His work is also part of private collections including the World Bank in Washington, USA, the Murcia Street Art Project in Spain, a private collection in Italy, and the Hervé Broncard Collection in France. In 2016 he was awarded the best painter prize at Foumban Institute of Fine Arts (IBAF), in Cameroon.
