(Born in 1980 in Naivasha, Kenya. Lives and works in Nairobi, Kenya.)
Dennis Muraguri employs a range of approaches to look at the urban culture of contemporary Nairobi. Muraguri draws inspiration from Nairobi’s visual culture, recreating imagery that is distinctive of the vibrant city. A multimedia artist, he works in printmaking, sculpture, video, and installation. The main feature of his work is the matatu – the minibusses that are the main means of public transport – and the culture that has developed around them.
Muraguri was a Selected Artist at the 2018 Kochi Muziris Biennale. He has exhibited widely in Kenya and took part in the KLA Public Art Festival, Kampala (2014). Muraguri has been a part of the Kuona Trust Centre for Visual Arts since 2005 and is also a member of the executive committee.
