(Born in 1963 in Iraq. Lives and works in Colorado, USA.)
Halim al Karim is known for his photographic work that incorporates stretched layers of silk. His work is an expression of his inner-consciousness and a visual interpretation of spiritual awakening and serenity. Karim creates dream-like images where the silk separates the viewer from the image, the barrier taking on meaning as the liminal space between being and becoming.
Karim has shown his work in the USA, Dubai, Germany, the UK, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Morocco, France, and the Middle East. He was awarded the Jury Prize in the International Biennale in Egypt and was one of the six artists featured in the Iraqi Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale.
