(Born in 1966 in Sudan. Lives and works in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.)
Due to the political and economic unrest in his home country Sudan, Hussein Salim spent several years as a refugee in Egypt and South Africa. Hussein’s work is inspired by these events, as well as the commonalities that cut across mankind, and the differences that add variety and uniqueness. He uses personal symbolism and layering to add texture and depth to his pieces, and his longing to return home fills his works with nostalgia.
