Mongezi Ncaphayi’s work explores the themes of politics, power, and gender. He tackles migration spiritually in terms of mapping one’s paths, but also the social atrocities brought about by a collective history of displacement from rural homelands to urban spaces. He collects maps to spark his creativity. He holds these maps in his mind when he creates prints. Sketching them intuitively. Ncaphayi’s work is also inspired by musical scores evidenced in the titles of his works, as he is a skilled jazz musician.
