Born in 1955, Sam Nhlengethwa is one of South Africa’s most prominent artists. He studied at Rorke's Drift and the Johannesburg Art Foundation. Under apartheid, he was considered one of the country’s leading resistance artists. His current work explores themes such as music, especially jazz, township life in South Africa and tributes to other South African artists.
Sam has been included in many contemporary South African art publications and his work can be found in leading South African and international collections. He has exhibited all over the world from Senegal to New York and Cologne.
