Nigeria
(Born in 1961, Zaria, Nigeria. Lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria.)
Sam Ovraiti received an MA in Fine Art from the University of Benin, before he developed his beautiful style centring around his use of colour. He has built a reputation as arguably the foremost water colour painter in Nigeria; painting market crowds, farms, and the landscapes and seascapes of Lagos and its inhabitants. Ovraiti has also worked with oils on canvas throughout his career, by creating cubist-inspired depictions of the human body.
Sam Ovraiti is an award winning artist whose work has been displayed at the Quintessence Gallery, Lagos, Nigeria; Galleria Romania, (annual pastel exhibition), Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria; and in private collections globally. In 2004 he was awarded the Guinness Top Three Award for Contemporary Artist in Nigeria.
