Samira Abbassy’s work draws is inspired by the visual traditions of both Middle-Eastern and Western art to study their shared mythology and iconography, as well as her personal identity at this intersection.
Abbassy has exhibited in the UK, the USA, Europe and the Middle East. It has been acquired by public and private collections including the Metropolitan Museum, The British Government Art Collection, the Donald Rubin Collection, the Omid Foundation in Iran, amongst others. She has been awarded grants and fellowships including a nomination for the Anonymous Was a Woman Award. She showcased her work at the 2019 Venice Biennale and has had her work reviewed by major publications including the Financial Times and the New York Times.
