(Born in 1885 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He lived and worked in South Africa.)
Tinus de Jongh was a self-taught landscape painter, most well-known for his realist depictions of South Africa that catapulted his career. The somber colors used to capture the scenery of Amsterdam were later replaced by the bright landscapes of South Africa, which he created with broad palette knife strokes.
de Jongh received critical acclaim and his works can be found in the Pretoria Art Museum and the Durban Art Gallery collections in South Africa, as well as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among others.
